Song choice 2: Banks - Beggin for Thread

We really like the song 'Begging for thread' as we are all familiar with the artist and are fans of her songs. We chose this song in particular because we felt that the verses have lyrics which describe the artist as 'disproportionate' and 'unstable' - this would be easy for our star to act out as the protagonist in our AS film opening also demonstrated erratic behaviour under our direction. Below are the annotated lyrics of the song, and the existing music video:

The video would be heavily performance based, in an urban location. 'Star image' would be an integral part of the video and a dark, monotone colour palette would be used to create a dark and mysterious feel. Close ups would be used, showing our star with her hands on her face, tearing at her hair, making her actions appear 'confusing'.

The lyrics which stand out to us in particular are 'eating all of my misspoken words' and 'words can come out as a pistol' - we had the idea of editing using the reverse effect to have text on the screen literally being eating by our star, or editing text coming out of a gun as the trigger is pulled.

The theme of our video would the effect of our star's shady past and her current regret, or perhaps a destructive relationship which has driven her to insanity. We would like to demonstrate a lack of 'control' and unpredictability, using fast paced editing during the chorus. 'Secretly, I think you knew' is an ambiguous lyric which leaves us room for a possible twist at the end of our video.

Although there is an existing music video for the song, which is also performance based, we feel that with our underlying narrative and use of text in the video, we could create a very different and perhaps more interesting music video.
